LoveCat Music is a USA-based independent record company and music publisher, founded in 1999. It originally focused on independent rock -- notably Evan Olson and Los Straitjackets. The duo is Momi Ochion (Israel) and Seb Taylor (UK). Ochion, whose roots lie in Israeli pop and world fusion music, is the melody man of the duo—the brain behind the compositional aspects of the album and a lot of the studio work. Sebastian James Taylor, who composes and performs much of the material, lives in London and is known for his work with the electronic groups Kaya Project, Shakta and Digitalis. Other members include various vocalists whose intoxicating vocals and chants lend the music its exotic flair. Angel Tears' music appeals to fans of world electronica and new age spiritual. The duo use a wide variety of rhythms, from electronic beats to the earthy thump of the Bedouin dharbouka and other indigenous drums. The music ranges from clubby to tribal and all points in between. Asian and Middle Eastern vocals give a spiritual quality to the tunes, and instrumentation covers the whole spectrum, with Tibetan flutes, Indian sitar, Arabian violin, Middle Eastern horns, grand piano and electric guitar all sharing the same space. Mellow synthesizers swirl amidst the elements, bringing everything together into a cohesive package. The duo have tracks on many global fusion compilations, including Buddha Bar 2, Buddha Bar 8, and Lotus Lounge. Vision is full of echoing flutes, multi-cultural voices, deft acoustic guitar work and mid-tempo breakbeats. There are instrumental sounds with origins all over the globe: Bedouin dharbouka, Tibetan flutes, Indian sitar and Arab violins, but the emphasis is largely on the middle-east. Male and female vocals consist of a mixture of ethnic samples and sung performances from artists Natasha Chamberlain, Momi Ochion, Mary Harrington, Zohar Ben-Shitrit and Shira Applebaum. Ethnic percussion loops are frequently fused with light dance loops, underpinned by strong, beckoning bass patterns. MOOD: The mood here is largely bright and upbeat with ambient introductions and constant shifting exotic breezes. Many tracks are danceable (with almost Latin rhythms) and there is a feeling of being out in the open air about many pieces. The cut and paste aesthetic of much worldbeat music is enhanced on Vision by the various live performances both vocal and instrumental. The combination works better than one might expect, creating a powerful, trance-inducing sound that mostly resists the clichés of "ethnic" electronic music.
