The Day Of The Triffids Is Written By Patrick Harbinson And Is Based On The Book By John Wyndham. Most Of The Planets Population Are Left Blinded Following A Solar Storm. The Triffid Plant Breaks Free From Captivity And Roams The Planet Killing The Population. The Day of the Triffids is a BBC two part adaptation of John Wyndham's novel of the same name. Production In November 2008, it was announced that the BBC was to film a new version of the story. It will be screened on 28 and 29 December and 2009, and will star Dougray Scott as Bill Masen, Joely Richardson as Jo Playton, Brian Cox as Dennis Mason, Vanessa Redgrave as Durrant, Eddie Izzard as Torrence and Jason Priestley as Coker. It is produced by Stephen Smallwood and directed by Nick Copus (EastEnders, The 4400). The script is by Patrick Harbinson, who has written episodes of the British dramas Soldier Soldier and Heartbeat, and the American series ER and Law & Order.
