　 在地壳底下融融的岩浆高达摄氏6000度以上，岩浆的辐射作用，就像一股巨大的能量，造就了深海丰富奇妙的生物景观。透过深海探测潜艇“爱文号” (Alvin)携带高科技的仪器、灯光和摄影技术，将三千多公尺下的神秘景观，尽收在《深海火山》这部影片里，同时活生生的呈现在我们的眼前。 　　大西洋有一条中洋脊(Mid-Ocean Ridge)，位於3500公尺的海面下，长度有6万4千多公里，宽度有800公里。中洋脊的热液喷口，喷涌出含有矿物质、金属的热水。在喷口的附近有将近240倍的大气压力，温度的变化从摄氏2度到400度，在这不可能有生物存在的地方，却发现了奇妙的动物以此为家。例如：在高温且高毒性的硫化氢环境中，“爱文号”发现了类似拖把状“庞贝虫的环节动物”(Alvinella)在我们看来严峻的环境中来去自如。 　　深海的火山系统，就像似烤箱的热源，它将地壳及海水加热，同时释放出营养盐(Nutrients)当作许多深海生物的食物来源。 　　深邃漆黑的海底，就像浩瀚无穷的宇宙一般，吸引著我们人类的注意力。深海的景观是如此神秘与奥妙，这不仅使科学家重新思考有关生命的课题，也促使我们对外太空有生命的存在抱有希望。
