　　少妇瑞姬蓝伯特(Reggie Lambert)在夫婿被人谋杀后发现自己开始也被三名男子追踪。在友人的告知下才知道原来夫婿生前曾经与四个人一同参与一项非法的勾当,窃取并独吞了一笔巨款。当不明白赃款下落的瑞姬(赫本饰)正苦于歹徒的骚扰时,瑞姬(赫本饰)就在骗政治流亡者为了援助一个对抗杀害他父亲的刺客在委内瑞拉的丛林里寻求金矿。在这里他遇见了内心纯真如孩童,却被当地居民误以为是邪魔而打算将其纵火烧死的Rima(赫本饰) 的故事。
◎幕　　后 　　本片悬念重重,一波三折,在外景上也处理得相当好,在刻画人物遇到危难时的表情和心理也十分到位和准确。2002年重拍成《关于查理的真相》(The Truth About Charlie),由马克·沃尔伯格、桑迪·纽顿、蒂姆·罗宾斯主演,完全缺乏原片的魅力。
