As with all of Savoy's Jazz For series, the songs are drawn from the catalog of the Muse label from the '70s, '80s, and '90s and the artist roster contains some very big names like Sonny Stitt, Curtis Fuller, Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton and Woody Shaw, as well as some lesser but still worthy performers like Russell Gunn, Wallace Roney and Vincent Herring. Although the songs date from well-beyond jazz's peak years, the performances are uniformly solid and the disc is a nice, low-priced collection of in-the-mood music. I have bought almost every CD in this particular collection. It's great for background music in social gatherings or in the office. I have received many comments and questions from people wanting to know the name of the CD. Each one different, and I never tire of listening to them. A Good Mix, But Note... January 13, 2004 By Trudee Britt Format:Audio CD This CD is a slightly extended version of the same release by 32 Jazz (the one with supermodel Leticia Casta on the cover). Where the 32 Jazz release has 11 songs on one CD, this new release contains 19 songs on 2 CDs. The song blend is superb; a great Sunday morning disc. Just wanted to give the original 32 Jazz owners a little heads up about this new collection. The choice is yours to invest in another, very similar CD, or stick with the one you already have. For those who are new to both collections, you will be pleased with the quality and mood of this CD. Bowen Format:Audio CD I listen to this album for any number of 'quiet times'--rain or shine, alone or with others, busy or not. It's just a nice backdrop. Mellow is the operative word here with a nice variety of lead instruments and not too much of any one thing. I'm a big fan of the "Jazz for the..." series and this one is my 2nd favorite.
