本作为一款将1998年所推出的人气名作RPG「Baldur's Gate」（柏德之门）给重新强化推出的HD高解析对应强化重制版本，并由之前曾经在BioWare担任游戏设计工程师的「Trent Oster」所新设立的新公司Beamdog内中的游戏开发团队Overhaul Games负责开发制作。而在游戏引擎方面，则将把原作的Infinity Engine引擎大幅强化改善再利用，并将跟之前版本一样采用「Dungeons ＆ Dragons」（龙与地下城）官方第二版的规则为基础来进行制作。除此之外，本作还将会把官方于1999年所推出的资料片「The Sword Coast」（剑湾传奇）也一并收录其中。另外附带一提，官方目前除了正在进行本作的开发制作之外，目前也针对二代「Baldur's Gate II」进行HD重制当中。 至于在这次的游戏改版内容方面，本次除了追加例如混血食人魔黑武士「Dorn Il-Kahn」、混血精灵术士「Neera」与人类武僧「Rasaad yn Bashir」等三名玩家角色让玩家们选用之外，另外还针对系统等部分进行了超过四百项以上的改良追加，例如像是介面的表现上，或是多人模式的改善等等。另外在本作的动画方面，也透过欧美知名漫画家「Nat Jones」协助监修更改为漫画风格的演出方式，并追加了一个只要LV15之后就可以去冒险探索的地下迷宫「The Black Pit」等等。另外，本作也会收录之前所推出的资料片「Tales of the Sword Coast」的内容让玩家们游玩使用，虽然是之前就已经发售过的东西，不过在这次的改版中则将会加入二代「The Shadows of Omn」的追加要素与改善点，玩家们可千万不要错过唷！
