(Ladino Language):

Sephardim:

Janet was born in Ankara in 1965 and Jak was born in Istanbul in 1958. Janet has joined Jak Esim who has been already active in music researching, arranging and performing, following their marriage. Their first significant concerts together took place at Cekirdek Sanat Evi between 1985 ?87. Following their albums, Judeo Espanyol Ezgiler (1989) with Erkan Ogur and Antik Bir H鼁黱 (1992) with Erkan Ogur and Okay Temiz, Sefardim 1 which was released in Germany in 1992 has won German Critics Award and selected as the best production of the year in folk music. Nezih Yesilnil, Murat Ozbey, B黮ent Ortacgil and Erkan Ogur have later joined Janet and Jak as permanent members. The same year the group gave more than 50 concerts at various venues in Europe and participated in many international festivals with the new members. Birkac Sonsuzluk Ani which was released in 1994 consisted of concert recordings from their Munich and Ankara concerts.Their songs were included in 3 different compilation CDs made in Europe between 1994 - 2000 and A Jewish Odyssey released by the Putumayo World Music in 2001. They presented and produced a programme; Romanslarin Gocu (Migration of Romances / Historical adventure of Judeo-Espanyol melodies) which was like a musical documentary over 6 months at Acik Radyo; a wellknown radio channel in Istanbul in 2004. Jak Esim is one of the world most important researchers and collectors of songs from this disappearing culture and language. His researches were given place in encyclopedias and some of his essays were published. He has also made presentations based on his researches. The most recent one was on "Sefardic Liturgical and Paraliturgical Musical Tradition" at the International Congress on "Musical Culture in Turkey throughout the history at the Museum of Music in 2006.
