An opening worthy of inclusion in the soundtrack for any creepy horror film sets the scene for this sinister journey into the darker side of dance music. Not for the faint-hearted, driving bass and forceful beats characterise Acid Save Your Soul’s (A*S*Y*S) self-titled CD. The second track is a rocked-out re-working of Prodigy’s “Voodoo People” with a heavy guitar focus and what sounds like “real” drums (how they got away without even a passing nod to Mr Howlett & Co on the list of credits is beyond me!) In typical German style, the dark and dirty side of things are explored in full force and it inspires some Keith Flint-style sneering and posturing as you’re infected with its grungy energy. Unusually, this is an unmixed CD (which does make it easier for some of the less-advanced music recording devices to separate out the tracks) which does disjoint the whole experience a little. Interesting that the attention span of dance-music listeners doesn’t fade out at the regulatory 3.5 minute mark of manufactured pop and we’re much more used to a full hour or more of uninterrupted aural pleasure. This is definitely one of those CD’s to chuck on the car stereo or dance around your lounge room to when winding up for a big hard night out – or possibly to keep the feeling going when someone else has decided your night’s over way before you were ready for bed! 专辑曲目: 01.
