专辑介绍:
可能没有再比这更好听的专辑了!
I don't think a debut album could get any better than this, If you ask me, Rain Fell Within sound like they have been around for a few years with more than a couple notches in their belts. The music they play is highly emotional metal. I would be wrong to call this doom cause it's not really slow at all, although it does maintain a strong gothic feel (due mostly to Dawn's amazing keyboard work) a lot of the Material presented on this disc is progressive-esque and upbeat. dual guitar lines impressively writhe on top of some excellent double bass drum work. Last but definitely not least is vocalist Dawn's incredible operatic yet angelic vocal performance. Sometimes I feel that female vocalists in these types of bands play it a little too safe, but Dawn offers up a stunning variety of range, tone, and overall sincerity. The opening Track , "A False Reality" maybe the fastest and most "progressive" track on the disc, While song's like "Sorrow Becomes Me" and the non Metal "The Sun In My Wound" leaves us with heartwarming ballads. Whatever the case may be Rain Fell Within is a terrific band. Anyone into the likes of gothic metal, or the first couple "Gathering" albums (with Anneke of course) will appreciate. By the way I witnessed the band live at this years Milwaukee Metalfest, and all I can say is they definitely set the mood for Anathema.
My first exposure to this Virginian band was their performance at Milwaukee Metalfest 2000. They went on right before Anathema, and provided quite a nice lead in to Anathema's overwhelming performance. Rain Fell Within were a pleasant surprise, being an American act who appeared quite capable of delivering atmospheric/symphonic metal that was both convincing in its execution and establishing an identity that was not a complete raping of their influences. Considering how rare it is to discover an American act who can create convincing atmospheric metal, I was highly intrigued. The performance was impressive enough to lead me to purchase this, the band's 2000 debut on Dark Symphonies, Believe.
At five songs and under 40 minutes, this serves more as an EP than full-length and dwells within the atmospheric/symphonic metal spectrum. For reference's sake, I'd cite Nightwish, Anathema, My Dying Bride and The Gathering. I'd throw in The Third And The Mortal, but with a less avant-garde approach and more reliance on symphonic elements. The songs are very involved for this kind of music. There is an energetic sense of urgency in the rhythm department, and the instrumentation is quite busy. Very accomplished musicians, especially the drummer, who injects these compositions with energy and attention to detail (especially on the cymbals). There is a slight progressive nature within the construction of these songs.
Dawn's vocal approach is of the classically trained operatic variety, more along the lines of Tarja from Nightwish than Anneke from The Gathering. She is certainly an accomplished vocalist in terms of technique, however, one of my biggest complaints about the music is that Dawn's voice is all over the place. It can get a tad annoying when her operatic tone smothers the music and forbids it the chance to breathe. This, along with the fact that these songs could have made much more of an impact had they been trimmed of some of their musical excessiveness, stall this album from being a wonderful listening experience on all counts.
"A False Reality", the opening track, gets my vote for best overall song in terms of song-flow, execution, arrangement and feeling. "Alone" and "Sorrow Becomes Me" begin beautifully...but soon fades into meandering paths that unfortunately dull the original intrigue. The title track is another well flowing and arranged composition that succeeds in its atmospheric and emotional deliverance. "The Sun In My Wound" closes this debut with Dawn vocalizing over a sea of piano and keyboards, failing overall to make any significant impact on me due to Dawn's excessive vocals drowning out the tranquil music.
Rain Fell Within certainly possess much potential. A condensing of their ideas and Dawn utilizing her vocal talents in less excessive amounts would go a long way to this band taking a step up to the next level. In any case, Believe is a very promising debut, and hopefully the first in a string of releases that will see the band go on to master their sonic realm and sweep their listeners away in atmospheric grandeur.

01.A False Reality
by Rain Fell Within
album: Believe (1999)
Into my imagination, into my pulsing veins.
Within my aching heart, you seem to ease the pain.
Just one more cut through my skin
And I can feel my life begin!
Here there's more pleasure than pain,
I see things never meant to...
See my imagination, into my pulsing veins.
Within my aching heart you sem to ease the pain.
And I see the damage you are doing,
but I can't seem to escape this false reality!
But I will not be fooled by your lying eyes!
I find it so absurd, you think you're in disguise.
And you say to me that I am your destiny...
But where will you be tomorrow?
02.Alone
by Rain Fell Within
album: Believe (1999)
I see your face as they carry you away. Now you are gone andI am alone.
Alone, searching for you, will I ever find you?
Lost, eager to return to thee. Fevered and mourning. Tell me I'm not dying.
I lay in the cold winter rain, shivering and bleeding, I long for peace.
See the snow hide my face, am I free from the chase?
Lost, eager to return to thee. Fevered and mourning. Tell me I'm not dying.
I lay in the cold winter rain, shivering and bleeding, I long for peace.
Ah, my stealing love Oh is all you'd done...
Alone, searching for you, will I ever find you?
And I'll follow every footstep, search through every lead, hoping my next step
leads to thee.
I will follow every footprint, search through every lead, until my next step
leads to thee.
My heart will lead me: I will trust my lonely heart.
Oh my heart deceives me! Are we meant to be apart?
Alone, searching for you. Will I ever find you?
I see your face as they carry you away. Now you are gone and I am alone.
03.Believe
by Rain Fell Within
album: Believe (1999)
Beneth the lonely willow, the tired angel lays.
Her arms outstreached, her stomach curled, from deep within she cries...
"Why do I seek peace? Why doth mine eyes deceive me?
On Earth I play, on Earth I die! When might I believe?"
Thoughtless words are spoken here and hateful eyes for all whp are near.
"My wings can't save me now from all that I have seen!
Forgive me as I ponder the meaning of it all.
Seems so unfair to wander with no questions of life beyond!
And all of this hurt from my pointless mission here...
On Earth I've played, on Earth I've died! When might I believe?"
From above, the silent sky reaches out and dries her eyes.
"Be free! Be at all like me! Be near and one with the breeze!"
...oh don't leave me here to die
Beneath the lonely willow, the fallen angel thinks abot this world
and why she's here and of her world of dreams...
"Beauty lays within me...why can't others see?
On Earth I'm sent to change life, but in this I no longer believe...
And this I no longer believe."
04.Sorrow Becomes Me
by Rain Fell Within
album: Believe (1999)
Throught the night, follow me; I will lead you to safety.
In your arms I'm complete and in your eyes I find peace.
Must you go so soon? Can't we embrace?
Until the night is through, forget the danger we face!
In my emptydays alone, I can't eat and I can't leave home.
Oh my heart longs for you to hold me as only you do!
Sorrow becomes me! Please ease my pain.
When you leave me, I go insane!
"Sit down, close the door. Your soul is mine forevermore!
You will do whatever I say. Tonight you die to take the pain away!"
Oh, I cry for the one that I lost and I feel for the soul that needs me.
But I can't be someone that I 'm not. Even though I can't bear you to leave.
Oh, my love you are so far away and it seems we are two worlds apart.
Though I fear in the end you won't stay. Only you can mend this broken heart.
Oh...until I am with you...
Oh my heart still breaks.
Sorrow becomes me on this quiet evening.
I've crept so slowly into your room, where you're not sleeping...
Knife in m hand, one last breath...
I say goodnight and share your death.
05.The Sun In My Wound
by Rain Fell Within
album: Believe (1999)
The light has grown dim, another day turned to night.
Your tears meet my lips as you hold me tight.
My body is getting weaker and I wish the sun would brighten up the sky.
I thought I'd see a light before the end but all I see is cold and dark.
My body is getting weaker and I wishr the sun would brighten up the sky.
I thought I'd see a light before the end but all I see is cold and
dark...besides you.
Thelight has grown dim, another day turned to night.
Your tears meet my lips as you hold me tight.
My body is getting weaker and I wish the sun wold brighten up the sky.
I thought I'd see alight before the end but all I see is cold and dark.
Oh, you hold me even closer now. I see nothing at all. With you I cry my last
tear.
