该书为美国大学教授黛博拉·布罗蒂格的新作,该书此前曾被评价为“西方学者首次著书正面评价中国对非援助”。黛博拉指出,中国的媒体都在宣传中国的援非是无私的友好之举,而西方媒体评价则恰好相反。中国的援助不同于西方的援助,其中一个重要的原因在于,中国自身也曾是一个受援对象。中国的援助更多地以低息贷款的形式出现 ,不同于西方的捐助。但中国政府一直未公布精确的对非洲援助数据。
