Chang is accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra on the Cello Concerto #1 in E flat Op.107. Antonio Pappano conducts the orchestra and accompanies Chang on piano on the Cello Sonata in D minor Op.40. Chang's tone is full and gorgeous on these haunting pieces, which she executes flawlessly. She plays with passion that positively leaps from the speakers. The recording quality is excellent and the CD booklet offers information about the history of each piece. I'm far from an expert on classical music, but I found these recordings stirring. I would highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys the cello and/or the music of Shostakovich. Great talent~ Han-Na Chang gives musical, well-thought out interpretations of these two works. Like Sarah Chang in her interpretation of Shostakovich's Concerto, when the need arises, Han-Na Chang plays with great virtuosity, unparalleled energy, and a burning intensity.
