This 2011 release is Konstantin at his Smooth Jazz roots. This man can blow a horn. Complimented with the smooth production on the release, you have a set that I guarantee will be the soundtrack to some great times for you. Not only has Konstantin Klashtorni made it the focus of his career to be true to his love of the genre of Smooth Jazz, he seems to have a natural flare for writing and playing it. While Jazz came to be from interpretation and the search for freedom of expression in the form of music, original compositions keep it fresh and ensure there are new works for other artists to emulate in the future. Konstantin accomplishes his freedom of expression by leaving original compositions others will want to interpret someday; this is Smooth Jazz II. As the audience for Smooth Jazz grows, its hunger for artists with whom the music seems to flow endlessly from their chosen instrument seems to be unquenchable. The saxophone is prevalent in Smooth Jazz and each of the truly gifted saxophonists out there bring their own sweet fragrance to the bouquet for us. However Konstantin is unique, like the bloom that stands out amongst the others. Close your eyes, breath deep, and feel your worries and cares melt away. This release is the definition of why we listen, wrapped neatly in Smooth Jazz II. While no one can deny the artistry at work in the sound of Smooth Jazz I, but Smooth Jazz II eclipses it gracefully. Let's take a closer look; Together Again - This is a great opener for Smooth Jazz II. Start with an upbeat rhythm and a funky guitar that slides in right after, "Together Again" starts off right. The keyboards precede Konstantin's sax for a moment, and then we are on the ride. For those of us that know Konstantin's music, we are together again and welcoming the groove. This track is infectious and is the perfect complement to what he is blowing out his horn. We can feel him having fun with it like he was in our living room with us. The horns intertwine with him throughout his playing and round out the sound of "Together Again" and set the tone for this truly noteworthy release. You Make Me Smile - Starting again, with the rhythm and funky guitar that got us going on the first song, Konstantin plays "You Make Me Smile" for us in the light and airy style that actually does bring a smile to our faces. The buoyant rhythm of this track encourages us to step up and get to work on our day, if it is early, or encourages us, at the end of our day, to drop the weight of the world and unwind for a bit and enjoy the life we are living. "You Make Me Smile" is perfect for enjoying our time living this one beautiful life we have to live. Forever in Love - Starting with the synth and a quiet guitar before Konstantin eases his sax into the track, "Forever in Love" is made to enjoy with someone special to you. A blanket in the park, strawberries and champagne, the summer sun and breeze leaves only this track to complete the perfect afternoon for us. The keyboards and guitar that back the saxophone remind us how lucky we can be some days, just for the simple things we have around us, and the love we can share. Nice and Easy - Keyboards and a synth with the rhythm track lead the sax in to us, "Nice and Easy". This track is a testament as to how life can be some days. Konstantin's sax flows through the track like a day when our errands just finish one after the other and we find we are left with a couple hours to sit and watch the sun gliding on its track across the sky, seeming to slow just for us to bask in it. Or is it like the shadow that sweeps across in front of the tables outside a café as the afternoon progresses, "Nice and Easy". Pure - Keyboards, guitar and the steady pace of the rhythm prepare us for Konstantin's "Pure" sax. It describes how he plays for us and why we listen to his music over and over. He is pure, 100% Smooth Jazz and it comes through to us that way. The twin sax tracks are not overdone here. The keyboard break is essential to keep us true to the nature of this track. "Pure" is a pure pleasure through and through, to the point you don't want it to end. Lay It Down - Guitar and rhythm start up to give a foundation for the sax to "Lay It Down". And lay it down is what Konstantin does. The lightness of his sax allows us to enjoy the track lay some of our own weight down. The bridge on "Lay It Down" is smooth as well. It will sneak by you if you are not paying attention. This is a great track for your mid-day. Let's Fall in Love - The keyboard lead in, with the synth and guitar under it prior to the rhythm starting sets you up for a love song that Konstantin playfully takes from you, switching instead to a light and up-beat track that makes you want to take that special someone in your arms and glide down the street window shopping. The sax never lets you lose track of that wonderful feeling of finding out when two people have done just that. "Let's Fall in Love" is that first time you hold them in your arms when you know they are yours. Hookin' Up - As we were hoping, "Hookin' Up" is that kinda groovy track starting with the synth and organ that introduces the sax. You will use this track for those times when you've got plans to hang out with some good friends for the day. The sax plays as the anticipation of a good time and the smiles soon to be had. Konstantin hits the high notes in the way he would when the door opens, you are finally there and the vibe is just right. Lovely Day - Rhythm with some percussion to bring that Latin flare that Konstantin does so well. "Lovely Day" brings you to a time when the breeze is sweet and humid, the trees sway like the skirts on the ladies walking down on the beach. The weather is perfect and it seems like everyone around you is enjoying the day the same as you. The keyboard shares the track with the sax for a bit and then supports it with the guitar. Listen to this track and before you know it, no matter what, you will also be having a "Lovely Day". Make Room for Me - This track feels very aptly titled. You can almost hear the sax saying, "Make Room for Me". The rhythm is smooth. The backing keyboards and intermittent percussion and horn perfectly accent the lead on the sax. This track is distinct from the others and has a bit of a rainy day feel to it. Still uplifting in its energy, its feel is more of contemplation than anything else. Without giving anything away about the reviewer, this track compliments afternoon tea perfectly. Love Never Gets Old - The youth of the heart is played out by the picking of the acoustic preceding the sax. "Love Never Gets Old" is a settled Konstantin. This is a showcase of maturity in musicianship. The sax shares with the piano and is minimized. There is a partnership in the music as in a blessed life of two people growing old together and yet, every day is new, and each time they look in the others' eyes, there is only seen the face of youth over all memories. Ready for Love - To finish this release Konstantin closes as strongly as he opened. The rhythm doesn't let on that nothing will come after. The sax over the keyboard and synth mix effortlessly on "Ready for Love". The guitar still haunts the track, even under the keyboards, and ensures the sound is fully ready for listeners who are ready to begin that next stage, welcoming someone special into their life.
