If nothing else is noted about dance-music culture at the tail end of the 1990s, the works of labels such as Ninja Tune, Warp, Talkin Loud and the efforts of a number of DJs holds testament to the fusion of electronic music with the turntablism of hip-hop and the rawness of drum & bass. Allen's selection reflects this genre-bending revolution with a top drawer selection that sees the breakbeat of Randy Crawford and Carl Craig's 69 Project sitting comfortably with the warm techno of Norken and some top-notch seventies funk courtesy of the Harry Roche Constellation. The inclusion of the highly sought after Global Communication mix of Lamb's "Gorecki," which twists the vocal of Louise Rhodes around a pulsing bassline and rattling beats, ensures the recommendation.
