剧情简介 ：
故事发生于1961年的德克萨斯州和怀俄明州，农夫Jack(杰克·吉伦希尔饰)和牛仔Ennis(希斯· 莱杰饰)邂逅，孤单寂寞让两个不到二十岁的少年互相爱上了对方。他们在篝火边长谈，在帐篷里欢爱。一个人做饭，另一个去放羊，总是早早起床，推一推还在熟睡的另一个，道一声明天见，就骑马冲进寒冷的夜里……虽然彼此真心相应，但是迫于世俗压力, 他们各自结婚生子，只能每年在一起度假。随着年龄的增长，两人的感情愈加浓厚炽烈，无法满足一年只有几天的团聚。可是怀俄明的牛仔们嘲笑同性恋，还会用各种方法折磨他们，这让Ennis没有勇气承认和接受与Jack共同生活。

幕后花絮
李安不赞成把《断背山》归为同性恋电影，因为影片描写的是爱情；广泛意义上的爱情，不应局限于男人或女人。李安还举例说，如果谈到爱情，他爱他太太或者爱一个男人是没有区别的。李安说：“想创造出伟大的爱情故事，必须要有巨大的障碍。两位主人公身在美国西部，当地存在男子气概及传统价值。因此，他们感受到的每一件事，都必须保持秘密。那是一种珍贵、他们无法言喻的特别事物。”
饰演《断背山》的两位男主角都赞成李安对爱情的看法。以《明天过后》蹿红的男星杰克·葛伦霍表示，早在多年前，他就听说有很多导演想将《断背山》小说搬上银幕，不过他一直在观望，直到导演李安要拍，他马上答应。尽管在现实生活中，他的成长背景和角色相去甚远，但他仍花了许多时间去了解真正牛仔的生活，他学骑马、放羊。李安甚至称赞他骑马时很性感。希斯·莱杰为了演出该片，还特别请老师学习南方德州牛仔腔调。希斯·莱杰表示，虽然他来自澳洲西部，但是当地的人和美国西部人其实气质颇类似，所以他可以理解并诠释片中的角色。
影片简评
每个人的心上都有一座断背山。
近乎“一语成谶”的这句话，是我听过、看过最有力量的宣传语。又或者，作为一部电影的宣传句子，它会叫人担心短短一行，可能比电影还要好——尤其当它是部改编文学作品的电影，需要承受双倍压力。
尤其当这部小说没有长篇累牍——Annie Proulx的叙事风格被认为是散文式的，两个男主角发生肉体关系的过程，不过花了三句句子的笔墨。然而文字精简不代表格局狭小，《断背山》是横跨二十年的“爱情故事”——括号中四个字是导演李安再三强调的“本质”，因为看过与还没看过电影的人都有可能被“同志牛仔片”的卷标引领到类型片的区域里。毕竟，这不是一部独立制作，却是由大片厂发行的荷里活电影。
负责为此片做中文字幕的迈克在看过试片后的第一个反应是：“西部《半生缘》！”我没有多问细节，或是由于这部被我期待已久的电影，我已经知道得太多了。由情节到某些场面的安排，我总害怕会与预期太过近似——原因是？都怪“没有遗憾就不是完美的爱情”这种观念早在我们心上扎了根，才会教人老在别人的故事世界里寻找、辨认自己一路走来的足印。
一定有人会问：为什么这本只有数十页，创作于1997年的小说里，竟有这些我(们)的影子呢？
