1982年英国国宝级歌手洛 · 史都华(Rod Stewart)为米高 · 基顿主演的电影《大夜班》(Night Shift)所唱"That's What Friends Are For"在四年后被狄昂 · 华薇克(Dionne Warwick)联手Elton John、Stevie Wonder和Gladys Knight唱红，并荣获1986年度第29届格莱美奖最佳单曲(Song Of The Year)。后收录在《Dionne Warwick And Friends》这张专辑中。
此后，又先后有Whitney Houston、Dionne Warwick、Stevie Wonder、Luther Vandross合唱；Diana Ross、Whitney Houston、Gladys Knight、Madona合唱；Westlife & All Stars在"Royal Variety 2003演唱会"上的现场演唱等各式版本。
很可惜，洛 · 史都华(Rod Stewart)的原唱只能在电影原声碟里找到，却没有包括在他的任何专辑或精选集里。
这首歌1987年在上海电台首播时，中文名称被翻译为《交朋友的道理》。
今天上传的是由Dionne Warwick联手Elton John、Stevie Wonder、Gladys KnightBurt和Bacharach演唱的版本。

或许新世代的年轻人不知Dionne Warwick何许人也，然而对走过60、70、80年代的人们而言鲜少不知唱红“Do You Know The Way To San Jose”、“Walk On By”、“I’ll Never Fall In Love Again”、“That’s What Friends Are For”…等名曲的Dionne Warwick。她曾荣获5次葛莱美的肯定，也是第一个同时拿下葛莱美最佳流行女歌手与R&B歌手的黑人女歌手。
Dionne Warwick，第一位榮獲葛萊美「最佳流行女歌手」獎項的黑人女歌手，截至目前已擁五座葛萊美獎在手，「天后」二字當之無愧。她於 1985 年與 Stevie Wonder、Elton John 等人合作，為愛滋病基金會募款錄製這首 That’s What Friends Are For 歌曲，成為 1985 年的冠軍單曲，再添一座葛萊美獎。
